Random Collision at Noorderzon Festival

Random Collision & Rijksuniversiteit Groningen | The impact of art
August 23 | 16.00 – 17.00 | Noorderzon Festival

At Noorderzon, we stroll from one performance to the next. But what effect do these performances actually have on us? Is a performance simply an aesthetic experience, or is our experience perhaps also coloured by our social interpretation of a performance? And can a performance influence your relationship with others? During Noorderzon 2103 and 2014, the choreographers and dancers of Random Collision studied this in a unique context, together with an interdisciplinary research team from the University of Groningen. At both festival editions, the audiences saw dance performances – Experiment A and Experiment B – that portrayed various forms of solidarity. The team studied the social impact of the performance and in order to investigate the influence of the performances on behaviour, audience members were instructed to play a game together after seeing Experiment B. The results were overwhelming. This Noorderzon edition, the research team will present the results and findings from both experiments.
